H. Stephen Watson, M.D. is a board-certified diplomate of both the American Board of Urology and the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons. He is a urological surgeon responsible for introducing advanced medical and surgical treatments to the area within which he practices. These advancements include the "sling" surgery for female and male urinary incontinence, orthotopic neo-bladder reconstructive surgery for bladder cancer, contemporary urodynamics for in depth evaluation of urinary incontinence, percutaneous renal access for kidney stone surgery, laparoscopic cryosurgery for renal cancer, no-scalpel vasectomy and percutaneous cryosurgery for prostate cancer.
Dr. Watson is a Florida Parishes native who was born in Baton Rouge. No stranger to hard work, Dr. Watson grew-up on his father's dairy farm near Amite, Louisiana. He attended Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Centenary College of Louisiana.
Dr. Watson graduated from Louisiana State University School of Medicine before completing his six-year surgery and urology residency training at Scott and White Clinic and Hospital, Texas A&M College of Medicine; Boston Children's Hospital, Harvard Medical School and Olin E. Teague Veterans Memorial Hospital. On completing this training, Dr. Watson began his urology practice as a member of the physician staff of the Ochsner Clinic in Baton Rouge. He then served on staff at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond, before establishing Northlake Urology in St. Tammany Parish.
Dr. Watson is the recipient of professional awards from the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Texas Medical Association, the Southern Medical Association, Texas A&M College of Medicine, the Texas Urological Association and other medical organizations. He is the author of scientific papers published in the internationally acclaimed Journal of Urology and other peer reviewed medical journals.
Dr. Watson has authored numerous research papers concerning prostate cancer, reconstructive urology and urodynamics, presenting these papers at meetings around the nation. For his scholarly work he accepted invitation for membership in the Eta Chapter of the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. He is a member of the American Urological Association, the Southeastern Section of the American Urological Association and the Louisiana and Texas Urological Societies.
Today Dr. Watson's practice concentrates on personalized office-based medical treatment of urological problems and strictly outpatient surgical care. His practice is patient-focused, making genuine effort to provide each patient the individual time necessary to address all patient concerns. Using his significant experience in direct patient care, Dr. Watson works to ensure a relaxed informal office environment with the emphasis on hospitality. To this end, Dr. Watson holds the highest possible overall patient satisfaction rating.
